"On September 4, 1962 Orchard Junior High opened its doors to students for the first time. The rectangular shaped building is centered around a beautifully landscaped, open-air courtyard. In the middle of the courtyard there is a raised platform, and around it is a semi-circle, concrete risers.

The main entrance, facing Orchard Avenue, is a fine example of the school's splendid architecture. The completely soundproofed building houses a gym. Between the gym and the modern kitchen is a three-curtained stage. The stage can be used from the gym or the cafeteria, which is very high tech. There is a corridor, just inside huge glass windows looking to the courtyard that run along the gym and cafeteria walls.

There is an intercom system throughout the building making it possible to make announcements to the entire school. At the same time the system provides a two-way communication between the classrooms and the office.

The site also provides a space for a football field, running track and baseball diamond for the boys' outdoor activities. There are separate fields for girls' physical education activities.

The building is designed to accomodate 800 students. It provides special facilities for science, homemaking, arts and crafts, industrial arts and music. Those who attend Orchard Junior High will have every opportunity to take pride in the fine construction and architectural beauty of the new school."
