OMS History

Discipline Over The Years

Back in 1962 Orchard did not have the Make Your Day (MYD) system. Instead they had different methods to cure bad behavior. There were in-school suspensions and hacks from the paddle.

The purpose of discipline was to keep the students at Orchard in line. Even though detention slips were replaced with the MYD system, students are still required to respect and listen to the teachers.

*MYD: You can make your day by earning 45 or 50 points each period. So you earn approximately one point per minute. This is only if you are on task. Now that does not mean you have to be perfect through the whole day. You can not earn up to 10 points before you don't make your day. If you make your day about 85% of the time during the quarter, you get to participate in quarterly activities!

This student has chosen Step 1, which is sitting in a chair away from class.

If he were to choose Step 2, he would have to stand away from class.

If he were to choose Step 3, he would stand and read a sign that said, "No one has the right to interfere with the learning, safety or well-being of others".

If he decided to choose Step 4, he would get to lead a student led conference with his parents and the teacher.
